About Us:
This website is run by an African American family raising an adolescent child with autism. After seeking answers for several years our son MJ was finally diagnosed in 1998 at age 5½. We were devastated and anxious to get any information on autism. What could we expect to happen? How would we help our youngest child and only son? There weren’t many parent resources readily available at this time. We felt alone and afraid. We needed to network with other parents to learn how to get through the day – and then there were the long, endless nights. We were soon blessed by several online support groups where we were able to share our daily challenges and celebrate every joy!
Today the Internet has made it easy and convenient for parents to meet and share their experiences and important information. We wish to share credible, relevant information and resources of interest to families to empower, support, network and inform.
Most of the information, resources and practical strategies shared here are gathered from our own personal use and experiences with our child.
A few words from our son
Hi, my name is MJ.
I love going to school. I have a lot of fun in school. One thing I like about school is PT [physical therapy] with Jon. My favorite PT activity is riding the bike. One thing that is especially hard in school is seatwork. Seatwork is hard but I am learning to do my seatwork independently and quickly. One thing that was hard, but I’ve learned how to do it anyway, is math. Telling time is hard for me, but I get better at it everyday.

Hi, my name is MJ.
The world would be a better place if it had no wars. I wish the world would be quiet. Everybody would be happier. When I grow up I’ll try to learn more about America. I will try to be serious about helping the world. In the future I think I will be strong. I will try to work hard. I will try to be proud of who I am.
Thank you.
